Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
This is proper Quebec winter. Highs barely reach -5°C (21°F) and nights drop to -17°C (0°F). Snow is essentially permanent from December onward, and Sherbrooke settles into a slower, cozier rhythm.
Marginally warmer than January. Highs nudge to -2°C (26°F). It still feels like deep winter. Rainfall is the year's lowest at around 61 mm, falling almost entirely as snow. If you're here for winter activities, February tends to have the most reliable conditions and, interestingly, often the clearest skies.
The first hints of transition arrive, with daytime highs occasionally climbing to 2°C (36°F), though overnight temperatures still fall to -9°C (14°F) and snowmelt makes streets unpredictable underfoot. It's the tail of ski season and the beginning of the shoulder period. Neither fully winter nor remotely spring.
Spring is underway, slowly. Highs reach 10°C (50°F) on good days. But mornings are still frosty, with overnight lows around -1°C (29°F). Sherbrooke's parks start showing colour and the longer days make the city feel like it's waking up, though about 84 mm of mixed rain and sleet keeps things wet and occasionally dreary.
This is when Sherbrooke becomes a pleasant place to be. Highs of 18°C (64°F), lows of 4°C (39°F), and the city's green spaces come into their own. Patios open, the riverfront paths fill up, and the university semester wrapping up gives the city a celebratory energy.
Early summer, with highs of 22°C (71°F) and nights staying comfortable around 8°C (47°F). Rainfall picks up to around 109 mm. Mostly afternoon storms. The sun is strong and evenings are long. Sherbrooke's outdoor events calendar starts filling in earnest.
The warmest month, with highs of 24°C (76°F) and nights around 11°C (53°F). Sherbrooke is at its most active: festivals, markets, and the Eastern Townships countryside are all at their best. Rainfall matches June at 109 mm.
Only marginally cooler than July. Highs of 23°C (74°F), lows of 10°C (51°F). Notably the rainiest month of the year at 127 mm. Late-afternoon thunderstorms arrive quickly and can be heavy, which means mornings are often the better bet for outdoor plans.
One of the more underrated months to visit Sherbrooke. Highs of 19°C (66°F), lows of 6°C (43°F), rainfall dropping back to 94 mm, and the first hints of autumn colour appearing in the surrounding hills. The university term restarts, giving the city energy without the tourist peak.
The Eastern Townships earn their autumn reputation honestly. October delivers peak colour. Highs hit 12°C (53°F), lows drop to 0°C (32°F) by month's end. Bring a proper jacket. The light is extraordinary. The countryside around Sherbrooke justifies every bit of its regional fame.
Winter returns. It returns unkindly. Highs of 5°C (41°F), lows of -4°C (24°F), and 99 mm of precipitation. Much falls as sleet and early snow. The city quiets down. The days shrink noticeably.
Winter arrives fully. Highs of -2°C (28°F), lows of -12°C (9°F), and 86 mm falling mostly as snow. Holiday lights brighten Sherbrooke's downtown. Seasonal events add atmosphere if not actual warmth. The city feels settled and calm in the weeks before Christmas.
